NEW YORK STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS - 6/12 - RESULTS - STORY - PICTURES

WAJ’s Chris Carl placed 10th in the 400 meter hurdles at the New York State Track and Field Championships. Carl ran the race in 58.18 seconds and was WAJ’s first male athlete to ever compete meet. Congratulations Chris!

PENTATHLON RESULTS

Prerace Seeds and Lane Assignments - 5/29

Last night at the Section 4 Championships in Vestal, WAJ’s Chris Carl won the Divisional title in the 400 meter hurdles, which included all class B, C, and D schools in section 4. Carl ran the race in a personal best time of 57.17 seconds, setting a new school record. His performance also automatically qualifies him for 2015 New York State Championships at SUNY Albany, which will take place next Friday and Saturday. Carl is now WAJ’s second track athlete to qualify for the State Championships in two years. Also making high honors last night was Gus Shuster who set a school record in the Pentathlon. Shuster placed second in the Division and third overall in schools classes A through D. Kevin Malen also enjoyed success, placing 5th in the 3200 meters and 8th in the 1600 meters, across class A through D schools. Malen also set school records in both events. Congratulations Warriors!


CLASS D SECTIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS - 5/27 - RESULTS - STORYPICTURES

Yesterday, the WAJ Boy’s Track team placed 5th out of 29 teams at the Sectional Championships. Highlighting the meet for Warriors was Gus Shuster, Chris Carl, and Kevin Malen who each came home as Sectional Champion in their respective events. Gus Shuster won the 110 meter hurdles and set a new school record at 16.87 seconds. Chris Carl became a Sectional Champion for a second year in row, this time in the 400 meter hurdles. Carl also placed third in the 800 meter run. Kevin Malen won his first major championship title, winning the 3200 meter run and setting a new school record at 10 minutes 9 seconds. All three athletes automatically qualified for the Section 4 Championships which will be held next Thursday at Vestal High School.

For the Lady Warriors, Abby Terrill made the podium twice, placing 5th in the 100 meter hurdles and 6th in the high jump.

PATROON CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIPS - 5/21 - WAJ RESULTS - STORY

Last night, at the Patroon Conference Championships, the WAJ Track Team came away with two individual Conference Championships and several other top performances. For the second year in row, Chris Carl successfully won a championship title in the 800 meters. Carl ran the event in 2 minutes 0.4 seconds, which is a new school record and an automatic qualifying time for the Section 4 championships in June. In a close finish, Carl also placed second in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 57.8 seconds, good enough for another school record and an automatic qualifying time. Gus Shuster also became a champion in the Pentathlon. After five events, Shuster came away with 2,643 points, which sets a school record and meets the automatic qualifying standard. Chris Weiman and Kevin Malen both placed second in their events and both set school records. Weiman ran 11 minutes 1 second in the steeplechase and Malen ran 10 minutes 11 seconds in the 3200 meters, both times good enough for provisional qualification. The 400 meter relay composed of Chris Carl, Tristen Jaeger, Anthony Younes, and Anthony Holmok took 6th place with a time of 47 seconds. For the Lady Warriors, Abby Terrill led the way placing 5th in the 100 meter hurdles and a 6th in the high jump.    


Catskill - 5/14 - RESULTS - STORY - PICTURES

Yesterday, the WAJ track team competed against Catskill and finished regular season competition. On the Boy’s Team, Kevin Malen and Gus Shuster came out double winners. Malen won both the 1600 and 800 meter runs and Shuster won both the high jump and the long jump. Shuster also set the school record in the long jump at 18 feet 10 inches. The team of Tristen Jaeger, Gus Shuster, Chris Carl and Anthony Younes won the 400 meter relay. Chris Carl won the 400 meter dash and set a new school record at 52.5 seconds. Chris Weiman also won the 3200 meter run.

For the girl’s, Abby Terrill placed second in the 100 meter hurdles and placed first in both the high jump and long jump.

Rensselaer - 5/7 - RESULTS - STORY - PICTURES

Yesterday, the WAJ track team competed against Rensselaer. Chris Carl led the way for the Warriors winning the 400 meter hurdles and the 800 meters. Carl also broke the school record in the 110 hurdles in a time of 17.1 seconds. Other first place performances included Gus Shuster in the high jump, Kevin Malen in the 3200 meters, and Tristen Jaeger in the 200 meter dash who also tied the school record in a time of 24.4 seconds. The team of Michael Leisear, Kevin Malen, Chris Weiman, and Mathew Sullivan won the 3200 meter relay and set a school record in 9 minutes 14 seconds. The team of Chris Carl, Gus Shuster, Tristen Jaeger, and Anthony Younes won the 400 meter relay and set a school record at 47 seconds even. 


Harbaugh Invitation - 5/6 - RESULTS - BOYS/GIRLS - STORY - PICTURES 

Last night the WAJ Track team traveled to Delhi to compete in the Harbuagh Invitational. Gus Shuster and Chris Carl led the way for the Warriors each placing first in their events. Shuster placed first in the high jump and set a school record at 6 foot and Chris Carl won the 800 meters. Other notable performances included Tristen Jaeger placing 4th in the 100 meter dash. Kevin Malen placing second in both the mile and the two mile. Anthony Younes placing 5th in the 200 meters. And Chris Weiman placing 5th in the mile. School records were set in both the 400 meter relay and the 1600 meter relay at 47.1 seconds and 3:42 seconds respectively.


Greenville - 5/5 - RESULTS - STORY - PICTURES

Yesterday, the Track team competed against Greenville. For the boys, the team of Anthony Younes, Anthony Holmok, Chris Carl, and Gus Shuster placed first in the 400 meter relay. Anthony Younes went on to win the 200 meters and Chris Carl won the 400 meter Hurdles and a new school record at 59.3 seconds. Anthony Holmok went on to win the discus and Gus Shuster won the both the high jump and the 400 meter dash. Michael Leishear recorded his first ever win in the 800 meters. To finish out the meet the team of Chris Carl, Anthony Younes, Chris Weiman, and Anthony Holmok won the 1600 meter relay.

On the girls’ side, Kali Drum placed first in the Shot put and Courtney Tadaro placed 3rd in the discus. And Justine Drum placed 2nd in the 400 meter hurdles. 


Taconic Hills - 4/30 - RESULTS -STORY - PICTURES

Last Thursday the WAJ track team competed against Taconic Hills. For the girls, Abby Terrill placed first in the high jump and set a new school record in that event at 4 feet 8 inches. Terrill also placed first in the 100 meter hurdles running 17.3 seconds breaking her own school record.

For the boys, Kevin Malen placed first in the 3200 meters and set a school record at 10 minutes 26 seconds. Malen also placed second in the mile and set a school record at 4 minutes 43 seconds. Chris Carl won the 800 meters and set a school record in 2 minutes 2 seconds. Carl’s time was also good enough to automatically qualify for the Section 4 State Champions in June. Carl was then joined by Tristen Jaeger, Anthony Holmok, and Anthothy Younes in the record setting 1600 meter relay with a time of 3 minutes 48 seconds.  


Emma Willard - 4/28 - RESULTS - STORY - PICTURES 

Yesterday, against New Lebanon and Waterford-Halfmoon the WAJ Track Team came away with the most first place finishes in school history. For the boys, Devin Drum won both the 110 and the 400 meter hurdles. Drum also set the school record in the 110 hurdles at 17.2 seconds. Tristen Jaeger won the 100 meter dash. Gus Shuster won the high jump and 400. Chris Carl won the 800. Kevin Malen won the 1600 and 3200 meters runs. The boys also won all three relays. The team of Kevin Malen, Chris Weiman, Matt Sullivan and Chris Carl won the 3200 meter relay as well as set the school record at 9 minutes 18 seconds. The team of Tristen Jaeger, Gus Shuster, Anthony Younes, and Chris Carl won the 400 meter relay. And the team of Tristen Jaeger, Anthony Younes, Anthony Holmok, and Chris Carl won the 1600 meter relay.   

For the Girls, Abby Terrill placed second in the 100 meter hurdles and set the record in that event at 18.5 seconds. Terrill also placed second in the high jump. 


Cherry Valley Relays - 4/27 - RESULTS BOYS/GIRLS - STORY 

Yesterday, at the Cherry Valley Relay Invitational the track team had several top performances and set many school records. The team of Lawrence Lamenec, Devin Drum, Anthony Younes, and Gus Shuster won the weight thrower’s relay, while setting a school record at 52.6 seconds. Gus Shuster and Chris Carl placed first in the High Jump relay. Chris Carl, Kevin Malen, Michael Leishear, and Chris Weiman won the Distance Medley Relay and set a school record at 12 minutes 10 seconds.

For the Lady Warriors the duo of Abby Terrill and Sonam Sherpa set school records in the long jump and the shot put relays at 22 feet 1 inch, and 45 feet 4 inches.  


 Coxsackie-Athens - 4/23 - RESULTS - NEWS STORY - PICTURES 

Yesterday, the WAJ boys’ team won against Coxsackie-Athens 62 to 56. The boys won all three relays and the team of Tristen Jaeger, Gus Shuster, Anthony Younes, and Chris Carl set a new school record in the 400 meter relay at 43.2 seconds. The boys also had many individual victories, which included Tristen Jaeger in the 100 meters, Kevin Malen in the 1600 meters, Chris Carl in the 800 meters, Chris Weiman in the 3200 meters, and Gus Shuster in the 400 meters and the High Jump.

On the girls’ side Abby Terrill won both the 100 meter hurdles as well as the high jump.      


 Maple Hill - 4/21 - RESULTS - NEWS STORY - PICTURES 

Yesterday, against Maple Hill, the WAJ track team had several top performances and set five school records. For the girls Abby Terrill placed 2nd in 100 meter hurdles and broke her own school record in that event with a time of 18.7 seconds.

For the boys, Kevin Malen came out a triple winner, placing first in the 1600, 800, and 3200 meter races. Chris Carl placed first in the 400 meter hurdles and set school records in the 100 meter hurdles and the 200 meters at 21.4 seconds and 24.5 seconds respectively. Carl was joined by Gus Shuster, Tristen Jaeger, and Anthony Younes who won the 400 meter relay and set a school record at 48.3 seconds. 


 Hudson - 4/16 - RESULTS - NEWS STORY - PICTURES

Yesterday, against Hudson the WAJ track had many top performances and broke four school records. On the boy’s side, Tristen Jaeger broke the school record in the 100 meter dash, running 11.7 seconds. He was later joined by his teammates Chris Carl, Anthony Younes, and Anthony Holmok in the 400 meter relay who also set the new record at 49.1 seconds. Other notable achievements from the meet included Keven Malen in the 1600 meters, Chris Carl in the 800 meters, and Chris Wieman in the 3200 meters all of whom won their respective events.    

On the girl’s side, Abby Terrill was WAJ’s lone double winner placing first in both the 100 meter hurdles and the high jump. In addition to these wins, Terrill also set the school records in both these events running 18.8 seconds and jumping 4 feet 7 inches. 


Chattam - 4/14 - RESULTS - NEWS STORY - PICTURES

Yesterday, the track team had several top performances in the meet against Chattam. For the girls, Abby Terrill was WAJ’s lone representative. Abby placed 4th in the 100 meter hurdles, 5th in the 400 meter hurdles, and 6th in the long jump.  

On the Boy’s side, Kevin Malen was a double winner for WAJ, winning both the 1600 and the 3200 meters. Chris Carl also came out a winner in the 400 meter hurdles and placed second in the 800 meter run. Malen and Carl were then joined by teammates Chris Weiman and Matthew Sullivan in the 4 by 800 meter relay and set a new school record in a time of 9 minutes 19 seconds. Tristen Jaeger also placed 3rd and tied a school record in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.2 seconds. Jaeger also placed 3rd in the 200 meters later that evening.
